Kojo (about 354 m) and is famed as a ‘castle in the sky.’ The extensive stone terraces remain remarkably intact, earning it nicknames like ‘Japan’s Machu Picchu.’ In autumn and winter, morning sea‑of‑clouds views draw many visitors, creating an otherworldly landscape.

Start from JR Takeda Station. You can hike directly from the station via several trails, or go by car/bus to the ‘Yamajiro‑no‑Sato’ area and continue by shuttle/taxi plus a final hike. Typical routes take 30–40 minutes on foot depending on the trail, so choose based on your fitness and time.

The most convenient lot is Yamajiro‑no‑Sato parking, with space for cars and buses and basic facilities. From there you continue toward mid‑slope access points by shuttle/taxi and then hike about 20–40 minutes to the ruins.
