Overview

Overview

Chihaya Castle lies on the slopes of Mt. Kongo in Chihayaakasaka Village, Osaka. It is associated with Kusunoki Masashige’s famed mountain defense in the early 14th century. With steep valleys on three sides, it functioned as a natural fortress. Reaching the site involves a hike, so you experience the ‘mountain‑castle assault’ feeling long before arriving at the ruins.

Access

Access

By public transport, take a bus from Kawachinagano (Nankai) to the Kongo trailhead area, then walk uphill about 20–30 minutes. By car, access from nearby expressway interchanges leads to paid parking near the trailhead. Bring comfortable shoes and layers. A gear shop near the trailhead can be a helpful backup if you forgot essentials.

Parking

Parking

Paid parking lots are available around the trailhead. Prices can vary by season, and holiday periods can fill and sometimes close when full, so arriving early is strongly recommended. Some nearby facilities offer short free parking with purchases—check on arrival if you plan to use them.

Highlights

Highlights

The main point is the shrine and plateau area where Masashige’s defensive stand is remembered. The hike itself is part of the charm: mossy paths, springs, and walking sticks along the route create a distinctly atmospheric climb. In warmer months, insects are common, but the combination of nature and history makes it a memorable visit.
