The steep terrain is reinforced with layered stone walls and terraced enclosures, creating a formidable fortress landscape. As you climb, the scenery opens up, and the view from the Honmaru summit area is spectacular—making the site rewarding for both history lovers and hikers.

By car, it’s around 20 minutes from the Ena Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. By train, take the Akechi Railway from JR Ena Station to Iwamura Station, then continue on foot or by taxi to the trailhead. The climb can be demanding, so plan accordingly—especially in autumn, when the foliage is at its best.

There are two main parking options: one near the trailhead at the base, and another closer to the Honmaru area higher up the mountain. Both are generally well maintained and free, allowing you to choose between a full hike or a shorter walk.

Highlights

Highlights

The signature sight is the “Rokudan‑beki” (Six‑tier Stone Wall), a dramatic stepped wall that greets you near the top and showcases the castle’s stonework mastery. Combine the climb with a visit to the historic Iwamura castle town at the foot of the mountain for an even richer day.
