Overview
The Takeda Clan Residence (Tsutsujigasaki) is a rare example of a fortified samurai residence rather than a towering castle keep. Located in Kofu, it is closely associated with Takeda Shingen and the Takeda clan. Today the core area is the Takeda Shrine precinct, and you can still sense the defensive design through moats, earthworks, and the site’s layout.

Explore the Takeda Shrine area and look for remaining features such as the earthworks and the distinct kuruwa (enclosure) remnants around the site. This is a place to appreciate how the Takeda protected their power center—less about a grand keep, more about smart, grounded fortification.
